“Wine Expertise Genetic”
Every month we will talk about a topic which is important to us and reflect our approach to this overly pretentious wine world.
For our first post something that we believed for ever. “Wine Expertise Genetic”
“There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth…not going all the way, and not starting.” by Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism.
As Lake Side Emotions Wine Boutique posts its first blog, we are reminded of the aforementioned sage words and how they represent our philosophy with our Wine Boutique and our respective lives.
“Life Is Too Short To Drink Bad Wines”
That is our motto at Lake Side, so recognize that palates are different and we do not all taste wine in the same way and with the same taste Emotions. Therefore, we think it is appropriate that our first blog post is motivated by a fascinating article in the July 31, 2012, Wine Spectator, “Wine Expertise Genetic.” The take away from the article is a quote from Gary Pickering, a professor at Penn State’s Department of Food Science and the Brock University Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute. Pickering commented, “Just how much influence wine experts have on Joe Consumer’s purchase behavior, if in fact our (professionals’) palates are significantly different not just because of our experience but because of biology? If we’re more likely supertasters, does that mean our wine columns and wine recommendations are perhaps more apt for other wine experts rather than the consumer?”
The debate about “supertasters” and “consumers” will continue, and we have no interest in the debate.
At Lake Side we care about our community of wine Drinkers, and we want them to find their palate and enjoy wine in their own way. Our commitment to you is to continue to find and display wines that stir your emotions and bring us all together by sharing the experience. For decades, the so called “supertasters” have made wine about $$$, some have been prostituting themselves for advertising revenue, knowing full well that wine is about individuality and about exploration. We encourage you to explore and not get caught up in the critic’s corner, review, as we know that wine is about a journey and not about judging a wine from reputation or rhetoric. It is about what is in front of you and those around you.
Thank you for your patronage, and we look forward to enjoying the experience of wine, friendship, and occasion.
